Nikolay Terziyski (1983) is a graduate in journalism and philosophy from Sofia University. He is a screenwriter and co-host of a popular TV show about politics and literature and a blogger.
His debut novel Excommunication (2017) gained a huge fanbase as the book’s first edition sold out in less than six months. The novel was listed among the ten most influential books of the year by the literary website Azcheta.com. Excommunication won first prize in the Prose category at the prestigious national competition for literary debuts Yuzhna Prolet. It was shortlisted in the Peroto awards for its contribution to Bulgarian literary context. ...
With his second book Chronicles of the Untold (2019), Terziyski firmly established himself as a literary novelist with deep interest in family histories and their roots and branches deep into the past, the inevitability of destiny, love and hatred, war and compassion. Chronicles of the Untold was among the six books, nominated for the Best Novel of the Year in 2020. The novel also received a nomination for Portal Kultura’s annual awards.
Stars Under the Eyelids is Terziyski’s third novel, published in 2022. Critics have called it “a tale about immortality, and a journey to the very essence of things” (Zdravka Evtimova) and “one of the best literary texts that has emerged in Bulgarian literature as of late” (Boris Minkov).

Stars under the Eyelids is a carefully constructed novel; the narrative builds a number of solid parallel structures, and, as the story unfolds, each of them evolves into a convincing, wholesome world. Much like Terziyski’s previous two books, the novel employs a “spherical” structure – it is a story that bites its own tail. A story about freedom, passion, separation, and love – love that knows no boundaries, love beyond the fragile limitations of time and space.Download excerpt
