This largely autobiographical novel tells the story of the deep bond that forms between an old Czech luthier, who had come to Bulgaria at the beginning of the century and little Viktor, the son of a musician, living in a poor district of Sofia during the darkest years of Totalitarianism. Thanks to the sick and abandoned old man, who would end his days in a home for the elderly, the child learns the meaning of true art, despite the mediocrity, poverty, and despair surrounding him.
