Yozhi is a child, a mother, a (great)grandmother, a speck of dust in the universe. She’s been around forever… for more than 100 years: from the 1970s in communist Bulgaria to the end of the 21st century. Post-war traumas, immigrant stories, domestic abuse, the climate crisis, and humanity’s uncertain future are among the many overarching topics weaving through the novel. Dark yet exuberant, Yozhi’s story combines fairy tales, autofiction, and dystopia in a complex and gripping narrative. Alongside the dominant story of a girl as she grows up and grows old, runs another micro-plot, which is composed of short punchy dialogues between the “eternal child” Yozhi and a parent that seem to be happening as though outside of time. These lapidary interludes constantly challenge the rules of reality and the principles of linear narration.
