DEJAN ENEV
Dejan Enev (1960) has authored twenty-four books. He is the recipient of major national literary prizes like the National Chudomir Award for a humorous short story (2015), the National Yordan Radichkov Award twice — for Lala Bosa (2020) and Sixty Stories (2024), the Aleko Award from the International Humorous Short Story Competition (2025), the National Yordan Yovkov Award (2020), the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, First Class (2016).
In 2008, the Austrian publishing house Deuticke published a German-language collection of his selected stories under the title Zirkus Bulgarien. In 2010, the London-based publishing house Portobello Books released the English edition of Circus Bulgaria as the book was included in the longlist of the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award for two consecutive years (2010 and 2011). In September 2023, the Italian publishing house Bottega Errante published Everyone on the Bow of the Boat in Italian translation by Giorgia Spadoni under the title Circo Bulgaria. The book won the Polski Kot Award for best Italian translation of a book originally written in a Slavic language.
