Stanka Pencheva

Stanka Pencheva (1929 – 2014) authored 27 poetry collections, she was also a publicist and an editor for Radio Sofia, at the Narodna Mladezh and the Septemvri journals. Pencheva has been a correspondent for Narodna Kultura newspaper. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Italian and Hindi. She was awarded the Bulgarian Writers’ Association big prizes for poetry twice in 1970 and 2002 as well as the national prizes Dobri Chintulov (1996), Peyo Yavorov (2000) and the national Ivan Nikolov award for her special contribution to contemporary poetry. Stanka Pencheva was one of the most vivid, beloved and distinguished voices at the Bulgarian poetic scene of the 20th century.
