Stanka Pencheva

Stanka Pencheva (1929 – 2014) authored 27 poetry collections, she was also a publicist and an editor for Radio Sofia, at Narodna Mladezh and Septemvri journals. Pencheva worked also as a correspondent for Narodna Kultura newspaper. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Italian and Hindi. She was awarded the Bulgarian Writers’ Association big poetry awards twice in 1970 and 2002 as well as the Dobri Chintulov (1996), Peyo Yavorov (2000) and the national Ivan Nikolov award for her special contribution to contemporary poetry. Stanka Pencheva was one of the most vivid, beloved and distinguished voices at the 20th century Bulgarian poetic scene.
